Mohammed Ali Visit to Ghana
A 22 year old Ali visited Ghana in 1964. He had a most rousing welcome.
Ghanaians gave him the name Kwame Mohammed Ali because he arrived in Ghana on a Saturday.
He wore Oyokoman Kente cloth mostly throughout his stay in Ghana. That cloth is reserved and usually worn by Kings.
He allegedly kissed more babies during his stay than any political leader has during campaigning.
Ali was such a womaniser and allegedly slept with a few Ghanaian women and allegedly fathered a child in Ghana
He tried to pull out the Okomfo Anokye sword unsuccessfully and gave up after 5 minutes of trying
He visited Amedzofe and was giving land and promised to retire and settle there.
What have l forgotten to include? Excuse me let me think small.
He was proclaimed King in Ghana. And it was interesting how it happened. He was besieged and mobbed anywhere he went. At one point the point the crowd was so large and excited he could not come through. He then shouted at the crowd; who is the King? The crowd shouted "Kwame Mohammed Ali. You are the King".
He then told shouted back; "let the King through". They immediately parted like the red sea to let him through. An amazing understanding of Ghanaian culture and psyche to deal with the situation.
That is a mark if a genius, wit and humour.
There is only one Mohammed Ali. Rest in perfect peace
